Living at Kewarra Aged Care

Ever wondered what life at our home looks like? For residents at Kewarra Aged Care, no two days are the same. With a range of activities and events happening round the clock, there’s always something for residents to look forward to.

At Kewarra Aged Care, we understand that placing a loved one into care can be a difficult decision often associated with guilt and stress and that finding the right home for a loved one is important. Rest assured, we are dedicated to ensuring a positive and supportive environment for our residents' well-being.

Kewarra Aged Care resident, Patricia Circus, shares her journey about her transition into care and what life is like at the home.

Patricia made the move to Kewarra Aged Care in May 2023 with her husband, Bob. Patricia shares that both herself and Bob were not well at the time, leading to feelings of nervousness prior to moving into the home. ‘Both Bob and I weren't well when we came in, but our first impressions were bloody fantastic,’ she says. ‘All that tasty food served to us, the care and love we received - I couldn't walk 5 steps without getting weak, now I am part of the walking group and I walk a lot with my friend Edna.’

When asked about her favourite aspect of living at Kewarra, Patricia expressed gratitude for the support and new friendships she formed as this provided her with encouragement and companionship. ‘I like I have friends to support me and encourage me out,’ says Patricia. ‘[My friends] Edna and Margaret are always there when I need company, I also enjoy the activities as I am always busy.’ Patricia proceeds by reflecting on the staff noting their kindness, particularly during the hard times. ‘The staff are lovely,’ she expresses. ‘Especially when Bobby passed, they were so respectful and caring, and everyone surrounded me with cuddles.’

For many residents like Patricia, the fun and excitement lie in the daily lifestyle activities and regular events hosted at the home. For Patricia, golf is a favourite where she enjoys the friendly competition and the sweet rewards. ‘I enjoy myself here and have done more in the past 4 months than I have done in a year. I really enjoy the golf because our Lifestyle Coordinator gives me chocolates as prizes, and I play competitively.’ When asked which lifestyle activities she likes most, Patricia can’t choose, ‘I like all of them; I like to be included,’ she says.

When asked what advice she would offer to someone considering placing their loved one at Kewarra, Patricia was certain: ‘Do it! Just do it. You won't feel lonely or bored here. There is a great bunch of people and staff who are very caring and support everything I do.’
