A full house at the Chef’s Table

Each month at Kewarra Aged Care, a select group of residents is treated to a very special restaurant experience. Chef Carsten leads the talented catering team producing nutritious and tasty meals for residents every day, but once a month the most coveted invitation of all is a request to join him at the renowned Kewarra Chef’s Table.

Throughout the year, every resident has an opportunity to attend a gourmet event and in March the theme was Las Vegas glitz and glamour.

The lifestyle team set about decorating the ‘restaurant’ in casino red and black and soon the scene was set for this lucky group of high rollers, but not before they were treated to a pamper session at the hair salon to prepare for the special event.

Guests were greeted with a champagne reception and cream of chicken cappuccino to whet the appetite. Residents sat down to an inviting entrée of golden brown fried bocconcini and not long after the table was groaning with mouth-watering main courses. From slow cooked lamb forequarter galette, and king prawn with linguini, to bleu cheese butter and sautéed spinach, there was something for everyone.

The red wine flowed throughout the meal and just when all of the guests thought they had no room left, a little extra space was found when a decadent scotch and white chocolate gateau with mandarin and raspberry sorbet appeared. Delicious!

The team at Kewarra love putting on the dinners for residents. Maintenance Officer Rory Howard, and Lifestyle Coordinator, Nicky Mifsud volunteered to host the fun event and Nicky, says, ‘You can feel the happiness it brings them through their laughter and smiles’.

Resident Lucia, said, ‘This is so beautiful and fresh, the mushrooms are beautiful. Actually, the whole meal is just perfect’.

‘I could lick the plate clean if I was allowed!’ said Margaret, while Reggie declared, ‘I love everything about this meal. There is nothing I don’t like,’ adding, ‘I am going to sleep well tonight!’.
