Toes were tapping to the sounds of the Ukulele!

The Far North Ukes group enjoy entertaining residents by strumming their ukuleles and singing classic tunes. Residents love to join with the singing to the likes of Waltzing Matilda and Home Amongst the Gum Trees.

They are a regular feature on our leisure and lifestyle calendar and are always dressed up to a different theme such as Australia Day or wearing Hawaiian attire.

The ukulele originated in the 19th century as a Hawaiian adaption of the Portuguese machete (a small guitar-like instrument). The name ukulele roughly translates as ‘jumping flea’ perhaps due to the movements of the player’s fingers.

We look forward to The Far North Ukes playing again soon for us!
