Daisy the dog

Daisy the dog loves all the pats from residents at Kewarra Aged Care when she visits with her owner. She regularly does the rounds at the home wagging her tail with excitement from all the attention. Resident Anne Hewitt looks forward to seeing and petting Daisy.

Studies have shown that elderly residents who are exposed to pets tend to be more alert and smile more. It encourages their nurturing skills and empathy with the animal.

It is believed that petting an animal releases endorphins (feel-good neurotransmitters) which can have a positive impact on people dealing with depression or loneliness. It helps to take the focus away from their own problems.

We look forward to Daisy’s next visit.
